The UNESCO World Heritage Training and Research Center for the Asia and the Pacific Region is a non-profit organization engaged in world heritage research and training. The secretariat is currently located in Shanghai, with three sub-centers in Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou. The Beijing Center is under the dual management of Peking University and the Secretariat of the National Commission for UNESCO in China. The Beijing Center has completed the reorganization process in 2019, and adjusted the management unit to the School of Archaeology and Museology of Peking University.

The Beijing center organizes heritage investigation and protection workshops, supports a series of cultural heritage lectures, recruits and cultivates interns, actively spreads awareness and knowledge of world heritage protection, and provides relevant education and training opportunities.
Huangguoshu Tunpu Survey and Cultural Heritage Conservation Joint Workshop
The workshop conducted a general survey of the cultural heritage resources in the Huangguoshu and surrounding areas by applying interdisciplinary comprehensive methods, and provided reliable basic information for the protection and utilization of Huangguoshu Tunpu landscape and its nomination for WHS status. The 3-week workshop had 26 trainees, who were led by and received instructions from more than 20 experts and scholars with different professional backgrounds.
Taking Peking University as the academic base, the Beijing center undertakes research and evaluation of world heritage nominations from all parts of China, and participates extensively in various expert seminars and demonstration meetings for heritage nominations.
World Heritage Value Study of Baiheliang Inscription
The Cultural and Tourism Development Committee of Fuling District, Chongqing, commissioned WHITRAP Beijing carried out research on the heritage value of the Baiheliang inscription, the correction and proofreading of the inscriptions, and the revision of its World Heritage nomination dossier. The research projects were successfully concluded at the expert review meeting, which will help to refine the content of the nomination dossier and affirming the WHS nomination strategy.
The Beijing center actively expands its external network and has established diversified cooperative relationships with international organizations in the field of heritage protection, universities, museums and research institutions in the Asia and the Pacific region, etc.
OUR WORLD HERITAGE
The Beijing center has formed a partnership with the Our World Heritage(OWH), a Global Initiative, and has undertaken the role as global convener for the thematic issue related to the World Heritage List. In the future, a series of lectures, conferences, workshops and other activities based on the perspective of the Asia and the Pacific region will be organized as part of the initiative.
